| Aug 22nd Service: “New Beginnings” Dr. Jody McBrien, Assistant Professor of Education, USF, Refugee Teacher, Africa. "New Beginnings" For a teacher the seasons ebb and flow around the academic calendar, beginning around Labor Day, and finishing around the time of the summer solstice. Summer provides a time to reflect: What worked? What needs work? The job of a teacher of teachers is to challenge her students with diverse perspectives about attending to children under their care, and to inspire them to take the heroic journey to look deeply into themselves and recognize their own biases so that they can grow and create a welcoming and liberating environment for all students. This talk will provide a framework for looking within, and beginning anew. |
